Chiropractic care offers exactly that. For acute pain, or overuse type injuries without a specific cause, we can identify the source of the pain with our examination, determine what structures are related, and correct the mechanical faults that are creating the discomfort. All while using conservative treatment techniques that carry very low risks of side effects, which even still are minimal.
Chiropractic care has better outcomes in regards to lower back injuries than opiod prescription, and back surgery. Of course chiropractic care is a non invasive treatment that relies on restoring normal motion to the joints of the spine and relieving muscle tension in associated areas to correct the problem and relieve irritation from the nerves. Check out this graphic below about the different outcomes in surgical intervention comparing first seeing a chiropractor for injury vs. first seeing an MD. This outlines how conservative treatment from a chiropractor as a first step for dealing with back injury can save you from things like spine surgery! Awesome!
Recently, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has come out with a meta review stating that individuals should seek chiropractic care for treatment of lower back pain, in particular in lieu of prescription medication pain relievers such as opiods. Chiropractic Care has been shown to be more effective in treating back pain than opiods, which carry a moderate risk of side effects. In fact, even over the counter medications such as ibuprofen have recently been shown to carry a greater risk of side effects than earlier thought. Often times, the "correcting at the source" approach of chiropractic works in a natural way to relieve the pain, instead of masking the pain with medication.
The nature of chiropractic treatment is to restore motion in joints very specifically. Meaning, once they are identified by our doctors, we are able to treat the patient with great specificity and ideally reduce the pain quickly. We know you want to feel better as soon as possible. In our practice, you will spend all of your treatment time with the doctor, as they are trained in soft tissue treatments like Active Release Technique and can also demonstrate and monitor you through some therapeutic exercises that you can do at home, such as stretching and ergonomic modification, that will help you feel better faster. This coupled with the chiropractic adjustment techniques we use at our office (Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson, Drop table, Flexion Distraction, among others) will allow us to quickly resolve your pain.
